development is people!

The development sector is vast. We get lost sometimes. Let's deal first set point. When organizations come to perform specific actions in areas like rebuilding after a flood, building wells feeding populations refugee camps, give bags of rice in a famine area, this is not development, is humanitarian assistance. Development occurs in a context of political stability and environmental, where people receive support to reduce their vulnerability to environmental change and so into it. Concrete examples? The construction of a borehole and the formation of a committee of water management in the Sahel, forming long-term producers better manage their farm or develop the marketing system are mango examples. I work for, you guessed it, in development.

It is important to differentiate the two because the African rural poverty remains misunderstood by most people. Emissions such as "World Vision" does not really help. We are shown a face without hope, where only money can help relieve the suffering of hungry children. But to believe that this situation is generalized to all villages, because I believe, lies. Most people I have met are looking for opportunities that do not always come true, but they look! For others, the need to support the family forces them to engage in unproductive activities that generate little revenue. A natural shock such as drought, or family, as unexpected death, is enough to push people into poverty. The cycle begins again.

In May, the bulk of the family so plowed fields. From June to September is the rainy season. If the previous harvest has been good, they can avoid starvation. Otherwise, they will be using government assistance, support from relatives or neighbors. In the worst case, they will be forced to reduce their daily ration.

income generated will allow a family to fill the needs for food, sending children to school, buy clothes and if possible, save for death, marriage or baptism. Others will use this cash income to buy sheep or an ox. The feeder is a very common strategy with several advantages. The animal is in itself a bank, because they can sell it if necessary. There is also another source of income because it peut être vendu plus cher après seulement quelques mois d’engraissage.
